SIERRA LEONE : SLPP ALLIANCE RESIST SELF STYLED FATHER OF DEMOCRACY

Mahmud Tim Kargbo
5th January 2017

In most cases, the downfall of people is glued in their lack of means to figure out the factors of their perpetual deterioration and adversity. When you identify your frail spots or those reasons that hinder your progress, there is the possibility, assuming the rich upper class interest is purely committed in stirring ahead, to set apart and disband  such negative quantity, in every place that they may exist, as an intrinsic procedure in taking community ahead.

A lot of challenges continue to threaten the Sierra Leone People's Party ( SLPP) democratic structures since former Sierra Leone coup leader Julius Maada Bio was elected as the flagship of the party in the 2012 Presidential elections. It kind of look like a tactical stalemate between Julius Maada Bio Paopa faction and true democrats within the Party who disagree with him. To many observers the Chairman and leader of the Party Chief Kapen was with a mission and Maada Bio with a tribalism lead to protect.

Today, from the SLPP Alliance resistance and the messages they keep on sending out to fellow nationals; it's very clear that all advantages from Bio must come to an end. Who can doubt this positive strides against a lawless leader? From the messages the SLPP Alliance is sending out it is possible Maada Bio tribalism messages will soon end in the slope. The truth is Bio and his fake Paopa faction will be very disappointed with their lack of pure democratic organisation in staging scores of negative actions against political party comrades. The question will be who owns the headlines not just for the slope, but for all true loving democrats in our country? This is an impressive action from the Alliance, the alliance are whining up the clock to sustain genuine democratic structures and in terms of democratic structures the Paopa Maada Bio faction are lining up the cracks.

This will surely not going to be Bio's time again and the SLPP Alliance is very determine to stop the delicious long run of madness from Bio and his team this time round. To be honest, everything about the Alliance resistance against Bio and his undemocratic Paopa faction worth it in order to sustain our democratic structures in Sierra Leone. One can just asses the current poor actions of our politicians and the poor performance of our Parliament in responsibly holding the Executive Arm of government by their obligations to the State. Democracy lovers in Sierra Leone are only hoping that the Alliance will stick to their current game plan as their action is not just for Maada Bio and his Paopa faction, but for other detractors of democracy within Sierra Leone that they can't get away with their undemocratic actions when the people are really ready to stand up for their democratic values. The Alliance must understand that Maada Bio is not always tidy, he's not always effective democratically speaking, but he can use his tribalism messages to destroy our democratic structures to make money and satisfy his 21 years idleness. The truth is Sierra Leone will benefit extremely from a multidimensional cultural SLPP than having a well tribalistic organised Maada Bio Paopa SLPP faction.

SIERRA LEONE: IT'S A PIOUS FRAUD TO THINK SIERRA LEONE CAN GROW WITH A 21 YEARS IDLER AS A LEADER
 BY Mahmud Tim Kargbo
Centre, for Research Documentation Policy Studies and Development of Law

9th January 2017

I take risks to write these truths.
I know that writing in such public forums could adversely impact my career. I have learned that I have many privileges that afford me the option of being out as an objective nationalist. I have accepted that, simply by virtue of who I am, writing the truth about our past, current and potential oppressors in social positions of trust in my own country will always be considered by the very oppressors and their stooges as subjective. I recognise that until we have massively reformed our appraisal of the study of scientific research method practices, my present situation as a researcher and the research that I conduct will be carefully think about surmise and subject to additional scrutiny. I know that, on such a systemic level, rethinking which types of research matter and are worthy of publication will be a long, slow process. But am determine to carry on with a nationalistic sense of purpose, dam the consequences.

And so do many other liberal activists and scholars living in very oppressive regimes. Yet even when we write about our own lived experiences with leaders that doesn't know what's expected from them by the people as they keep on marginalising the majority to satisfy their personal interests we are frequently told (even in academic spaces that imagine themselves as accepting) that we are wrong, mistaken, lying, attention seeking or otherwise excessively doing what's existing in our minds. Need evidence on this? Go through the remarks part of just about any article written by liberally minded  people or scholars I assure you will discover response that attempt to fix our supposed misunderstandings of our own experiences, at best, and undress us of our very humanity, at worst.

If I am going to sustain my actions as a keyboard fighter, I have no doubt that this process is malleable. It’s a culture that we can change from both inside and outside our activities. Within the academy, we have a responsibility to take a long and hard look at which bodies we value and which ones we don’t, and ask ourselves why that is. We have to ask ourselves what types of work are worthy of pay in this coming leadership contest, of promotion and of tenure to save our people from the current economic oppression cause by the poor leadership actions of the current regime. The truth is Maada Bio doesn't have the leadership quality to take our country out of the current economic mess. He battered himself long before now with financial and human right abuse criminal records. He's not trustworthy in any sense of the word to even lead primary school going pupils because responsible parent will be truly concern he may pass over his criminal tricks to the kids, let alone a country.

This notion of lacking objectivity in Sierra Leone in handling national issues is the heart of all problems. By virtue of being a responsible nationalist, tribalism scholars, scholars with personal interests, politicians with criminal records and politicians with unpatriotic actions and so on, often when they are exposed by nationalists scholars they form the nest of evil against nationals that failed to dance to their oppressive dictates and incarnate a group that is truly seen as despotic in all fronts against democratic peaceful voices. In theory, true nationals always host serious concerns with these acts: subjectivity is incredibly dangerous. Acknowledging subjectivity to be the order of the day in any democratic dispensation paves the way for arrogant behaviours from those in social positions of trust as this often make them to believe that they aren't equal in front of the law. This is disgusting and worrying and it spread lawlessness from the top rankings in social positions of trust in running the State from their prejudices and partialities, but we shall continue to confront them head-on. Valuing subjectivity allow rogues in social positions of trust to use oppressive methodologies like outright sycophancy that let non principled nationals to surrender their professionalism to win favour from these dictators. That's why such subjectivity permits us to delve into a level of research within our communities and cultures that outsiders to our communities would find difficult or impossible to access.

But unfortunately, as a responsible nationalist, my presumed subjectivity from state oppressors has real national consequences. It affects the types of research I am allowed to conduct. It affects whether my research will be considered empirical, useful and valid as am exposing the rots of previous, current and potential State oppressors parading around as our people in social positions of trust are causing to our country in a relentless manner, It affects how hard I will have to fight to get approval to carry out my research by the academic review. It means that to engage in qualitative methodologies, I have to risk the double jeopardy of conducting subjective research as a supposedly subjective scholar and dealing with the fallout should I attempt to publish research considered by many to be as an adviser in my nationalistic program put it "wishy-washy.” It means that the work we do in our own communities may be appropriated by other scholars seen as more objective than ourselves.

Such issues are much more than minor inconveniences. Failing to value and respect the types of data that objective scholars are collecting and the ways we are collecting them is a form of silencing us. When we pioneer methodologies or bring to light cultural knowledge previously or currently rejected as subjective in academic spaces, we are adding our voices to the conversation in the most authentic ways we can. So when our courses are decried as agents of a very political party or politician, or when peer-review publications, Politicians and their stooges reject our efforts with contempt, or when we are ridicule that our writing style is not widely accepted, stooges or the very evil doers of the State and their people want to silence us with an intension to promote their evil acts around the country without being checked. Concurrently, we are being dismantled of our genuineness by the negative forces.

I write truth that past, current and potential oppressors of the people parading around as people in social positions of trust do not want to see or hear.

I do this with the genuine intention to play my own positive role as a nationalist to educate fellow nationals that might not have the opportunity to unearth the wickedness of our past, current, and potential leaders. The wickedness of our these leaders in most cases is very difficult to understand by outsiders who have never witnessed our real life experiences, in most cases they believe that their wickedness and extreme greed directed towards fellow nationals is beyond normal human behaviour. This is a stretch they often find frightening  in our leaders in terms of genuine national cohesion and patriotism, as their actions are mostly rooted in the devaluation of fellow nationals instead of serving them well as stated in our legal books to add concrete value in their lives. Actions of our past and current leaders are rooted in what they now considered to be a culture that does not believe the ordinary man and his children are equally suppose to benefit from the resources of the state just as they previously and presently benefited/benefiting with their family members, they don't believe survivors of the war they created through their own greed or Ebola and other oppressed nationals are telling the truth about being personally abused in a number of odd ways by not prosecuting embezzlers of Ebola and other national funds, their actions are rooted in a culture that does not believe when the ordinary people say they are experiencing violence and intimidations at the hands of the justice sector. There actions are rooted in a culture that does not believe in objectivity and the rule of law and they are never what they claimed to be when they overthrown the then APC regime or were grappling to gain governance.

I write the hard but uncomfortable truth.
As true nationalists, we must avoid hypocrisy in all national issues and learn how to tolerate fellow nationals how to think critically. Unfortunately most of our people in social positions of trust like critical thinkers only if they are saying things that are affecting them, but have difficulty turning that lens upon themselves when they're oppressing others. We do not want to consider that our systemic devaluation of objective national thinkers may be rooted in something more than personal preference. We don’t want to admit that we are comfortable judging the merit of values but live in fear of what we cannot easily quantify. We have difficulty accepting that, however inadvertently, we have created an institutional culture that devalues the work of liberalise scholars when we dream ourselves to be committed to the work of personal interest and promote disadvantages in all sectors of our society.
