The former flagbearer of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has spoken ill of other aspirants in the party on national Television. Julius Maada Bio described the recent All Aspirants Alliance of the SLPP in which eleven intending aspirants are part off as “gang up” and an extraordinary situation, adding that the “alliance is an ambush for me and I will not join it”
He said that the people in the alliance are all new comers in politics and that he has reached the most senior position in politics. Bio further described his closest rival Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) as a new kid in the block and an imposter, noting that KKY only registered few weeks ago in the party. He explained that KKY has been attacked at the SLPP Headquarters because he was not a member of the party but that now he has registered and he will be allowed in the party. Bio also described the former chairman and leader of SLPP, John Oponjo Benjamin as initiator of all the problems in the SLPP and that the problem between himself and John Benjamin was because he chose to hand over power to a civilian government while JOB wanted him to hold on to power.
He accused JOB of wanting to manipulate the SLPP constitution so that he will transform himself from the chairman of the SLPP to a flagbearer and that because he stood against him; JOB has been saying all sorts of ill words about his person. “I personally held the hands of JOB into politics in Sierra Leone,” Bio beat his chest. Bio further accused the minority leader of the SLPP, Dr Bernadette Lahai as being compromised as she has not been standing against some of the policies of the government. The former flagbearer also described another SLPP intending aspirant, Franklyn Joe Rodgers as a political fly, noting the whole alliance is politically impotent.
